What Do Lutherans Believe

The Lutheran Church arose in 16th century Europe as a reform movement, led by Martin Luther within the church of the time. When attempts at reform failed, the followers of Luther established a new church based upon principles of the Reformation. These principles still continue to have importance in the Lutheran Church today.

These principles are:

  1. Man is made right in God's sight by faith in Jesus, not by our deeds.
  2. The Church is made up of a priesthood of baptized believers.
  3. It is the responsibility and privilege of Christians to read, interpret, and understand God's word as it is contained in the Bible.

The central doctrine of our belief is that God has shown Himself to us through Jesus. We believe that Jesus is God's Son, that He shared humanity, died for us, and rose from the dead. We believe that this same God who brings us life through His Son continues to call us to be a serving fellowship through His Holy Spirit. This fellowship is what we, as Lutherans, call the Church.

The Lutheran Church recognizes only two sacraments, Baptism and Holy Communion. These are regarded as true sacraments because they are commanded by Jesus, they use earthly material, and they carry a promise of forgiveness, everlasting life and deliverance from evil.

Ours Beliefs as

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church

We believe that God has called us together to worship, show His love, and to serve His kingdom. As we have had the privilege of serving God, we have grown to know a sense of unity, love, and friendship in our common faith. As a gift from God we fell a strong sense of intimate support for one another as God's love has come alive in our fellowship.
